Pet Owner's Information

Nail Clipping:

A groomers most often heard request is to cut the nails short.  Although every effort will be taken to accomodate this request there are a few facts a pet owner should know and understand.

The nail of a dog or cat has a vein running through the center of the nail, called the 'quick'.  The groomer can only cut the nail up to the quick, no matter how far down the quick is in the nail.  Cutting the nail too far into the quick to make the nail short is not recommended. Cutting the nail too short into the quick causes pain and bleeding to the pet.  The owner must understand that sometimes it is not possible to shorten the nail to the owners request due to the fact that the quick has grown too long.  In this case, the nail will be cut as short as possible so that the quick will "back off'. In a few weeks time the quick will be ready to be cut again shorter and shorter each time, resulting in a nicely manicured nail.   This may take time to achieve. For your pets comfort, nails should not touch the floor. Failure to maintain proper nail length may cause pain & discomfort and may also deform the paw, causing improper balance, walking and other daily activities.  For severely overgrown nails, please consult your veterinarian.

Fleas, Ticks, Mosquitoes:

There are many products on the market today to kill and control fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes.
Fleas not only infest your pet, they can in infest your entire house, and you !  Fleas carry disease, such as tapeworm, etc. that can affect your pet and may be harmful or fatal.  They can even cause allergic dermatitis which can cause discomfort and even hair loss.
Ticks carry Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, etc.   Mosquitoes carry heartworm, etc.  Any of these  left untreated may be fatal & cause death.
As as a responsible pet owner, please consult your veterinarian for the best prevention method for your pet.
